This British Geological Survey (BGS) marine geophysical and sampling survey took place from September to October 1977 in the Minch and west of the Outer Hebrides on board the RRS Challenger. This was a regional mapping survey to examine the nature of the Continental slope. Seabed samples and cores were collected using Shipek grab, Gravity corer, 1m rock drill (midi drill) and unmanned submersible Consub. Seismic data were collected using a sidescan sonar, pinger, precision depth recorder, echosounder and sparker. These data are archived by BGS. Technical details of the survey are contained in BGS Internal Report 77/16.
